 | Algebra is developed by Muslims during the Middle Ages and reaches Europe during the Renaissance. Italians advance algebraic methods during the Renaissance, most famously with Jerome Cardano's Ars Magna, the first great Latin book entirely about algebra. Cardano, however, steals key mathematical techniques, including the formula for cubic equations (pictured), from other Italian mathematicians. Cardano makes many other contributions of his own, including an important book on probability. |
