Donatello's David

Donatello (c.1385-1466), reputed to be one of the greatest sculptors in Italy, completes a bronze David, commissioned by the Medici for their palace in Florence. His David was also the first statue cast completely in bronze since Greek and Roman classical times—part of the renaissance (revival) of classical interests and methods.
