High Renaissance Begins

The year 1500 marks the shift in artistic style and objectives giving rise to what is popularly referred to as the High Renaissance. Artists of this period include Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Venetian painter Tiziano Vecellio Titian (c.1485 - 1576). Titian's Bacchus and Ariadne one of three mythological paintings portrayed the image of Alfonso d'Este's castle in Ferrara, Italy. Titian, a master of color, is recognized as the dominant painter of the Venetian Renaissance and an artist of unparalleled international stature.
