Glorify God: A saint of your choice

Bishop

Jester "Artist" was not a common career goal for women of the Renaissance, but some women defied tradition. With courage and hard work, they become talented and well known artists of their day. Sofonisba Anguissola (1532/1535-1625) was one, along with her four sisters. Another woman artist of the time was Artemisia Gentileschi (c.1597-after 1651), who learned the trade in her father's workshop. And as the Bishop says, many nuns also became skilled artists, painting religious visions in their convents.

I cannot understand your wish to hire a woman artist, Monna Margherita. But it doesn't matter. Sofonisba Anguissola is a court artist of King Philip II in Spain, and we certainly cannot offend the king by calling her to Italy. The church does have some nuns who paint their religious visions on the their convent walls. Alas, they are not available for commissions. Perhaps you will reconsider a male artist?
