Glorify yourself and your family: Glorify the Human Body

Your Wife

Michelangelo's David
Michelangelo's David
A male nude in our backyard? Well, honey, if you insist... They do say that a man's body represents perfection. I think it depends on the man, of course, but I'd be happy to audition the models.

Your Accountant

A garden sculpture would be a delight for the senses, my lord, but not for your bank account. I beg you to choose something cheaper—perhaps a painting?

da Vinci's Vitruvian Man
da Vinci's Vitruvian Man
Jester Renaissance artists were fascinated by the human body for several reasons. God made humans in His own image, so the human body must be perfect, reflecting the perfection of God Himself. Renaissance artists were also obsessed with proportions, and none more than that of the human body. With arms and legs extended, the human body fits into a square and a circle—the perfect geometrical forms. This was astonishing to them and became a foundation for the whole philosophy of the Renaissance that "Man is the measure of all things."
