Vasari's Lives of the Artist

Florentine art historian Giorgio Vasari (1511 - 1574) writes seminal book Lives of the Most Excellent Painters, Sculptors, and Architects. His book states, for the first time, that the idea of "rebirth" (Renaissance) in art began in Italy in about 1250 and progressed through "childhood" and "youth" to its 16th century maturity.
