da Gama's Voyage of Discovery

Following in Bartholomew Dias' path, Vasco da Gama sails to the Cape of Good Hope—and then continues on into the unknown. He makes many stops along Africa's east coast, then crosses the Indian Ocean to Goa, India, the first European ship to reach Asia. Da Gama returns with spices, amber, and gold worth sixty times the initial cost of the voyage.
